About me

My name is Lachlan Mahoney. I am 17 and Australian, but for the past several years I have been living in Mongolia after moving from England. I have been to 31 countries and been photographing them for about 4 years. I am a self taught photographer with the dream of one day making it big in the industry. This blog is my way of sharing my world with everyone, and bringing them along on my amazing adventures as well as showing how I progress with my photography. I currently am shooting on a fuji x100s (which is something I absolutely adore), I do also shoot on my Canon 600D with a few different lenses. I hope you guys enjoy my blog, since the I started it almost a year ago the support I've gotten has been amazing. So if you feel like it share it with anyone you want.

Thank you all so much.

Traditional Mongolian Living

Traditional Mongolian living, or the nomadic on is not an easy one. It is a live of repetition and living through the harsh Mongolian weather in these Ger. These are their portable houses and they are the most cramped things to sleep in let alone live in. It might just be because I'm claustrophobic but personally I would never want to live in one of these for an extended period of time. But experiencing it is definitely something you wouldn't forget and is actually pretty enjoyable if you are with the right people.
Hope you guys enjoy.

My First Attempt At Star Photography

This week we had our annual school camp, a week out in the countryside in Mongolia, and is an awesome opportunity to get some countryside photos. So this year I decided that I was going to try something different and diverge in the world of landscape photography and star photography, but only using my Fuji x100s. I didn't put my tag on these images because I didn't want the tag to diminish the image because its so dark that would be distracting. But either way I hope you guys like these experiments of mine, sorry that I have been so slack recently with my uploads I will try and get back to the way it use to be.

Hope you guys enjoy

Time For School

School is starting up in a week from today and that means that I do really need to knuckle down and finish the last pieces of summer work that I have left over. This means that my uploading activity will slack over the next few days and probably into the new school year as it is my senior year. So I try my very best to post something every second day. I do apologise but sadly its that time of year again that school is starting up and everyone really has to knuckle down. So I do hope that you guys do stick around and check up regularly.

Improvising on the stop

Photography often requires you to have the ability to improvise a shot on the fly. My younger brother and I was on a train in Hong Kong and I was in the mood to shoot and told him to hold it there, so yes this is a staged shot but none the less its a shot that I quite like.

Strangers on a train

Now days when we get on a train we just look straight down at our phones and ignore everyone that tries to talk to us. This is a recent phenomenon that has come around because of our phones we've become so attached to them and use them to escape reality. I recon if you put your phone down for a just a 24 hour span and went around your normal day then you really would meet some really amazing people.
Hope you guys enjoy.

Choosing a macro

When shooting macro images the differences happen in your images are so minuet but the effect it adds to your photo is amazing the difference of a millimeter of focus shift and throw your photo completely off, In this case its not a super macro but the effect is still very obvious, When your focus gets draw too far left it throws the whole image off. So when taking macros don't just take one take a lot and take your time there is nothing rushing you.

Rain forest macro

Rain forests are full of amazing life you just got to get close enough to see it. The one that I went to in Australia I sadly didn't have a macro lens with me so I couldn't get as close as I wanted to, but instead of quitting and going home I instead made do with my Fujifilm and got some pretty cool shots, (the other macro shots were also taken on my x100s). Hope you guys liek

Ally way worker

While a lot of people in Hong Kong do indeed work out of a shop a lot of people are unable to do this they have to work in an ally way. These people working in ally ways are often people who work for small companies next to their little set up, or they work alone. Either way its got to be a tough life.

Trying to save and image

This is an image I took in a back ally of Hong Kong and I forgot to change my setting back to low light ones so the image is extremely black. Sadly there isn't really anything you can do to save this image except make the darks darker and the lights lighter so that's what I did and I got a pretty cool contrast image after it.

Street workers

Forever working

Because Hong Kong has such a larger population, it becomes very difficult for people to have well paying jobs as there are only so many. And because of this people have to work street vending and this is a very competitive and low paying job that you do see a lot of much older men working in these stores as well as a lot of younger ones, but the older ones always make for much better photos than the younger ones. Just something about old(er) street vendors and workers that just give a better photo compared to the younger ones. Plus they do tend to care less when you take photos of them
