About me

My name is Lachlan Mahoney. I am 17 and Australian, but for the past several years I have been living in Mongolia after moving from England. I have been to 31 countries and been photographing them for about 4 years. I am a self taught photographer with the dream of one day making it big in the industry. This blog is my way of sharing my world with everyone, and bringing them along on my amazing adventures as well as showing how I progress with my photography. I currently am shooting on a fuji x100s (which is something I absolutely adore), I do also shoot on my Canon 600D with a few different lenses. I hope you guys enjoy my blog, since the I started it almost a year ago the support I've gotten has been amazing. So if you feel like it share it with anyone you want.

Thank you all so much.

Lasting love

This is one of my photos I got in Hong Kong and seriously these 2 were the cutest old couple. I passed by them twice and both times they were smiling and laughing, and that isn't really something that you see very often an old couple like this that has true lasting love.
Definitely how I want to end up in my old age :P

micro world 2.0

Macro photography is something that I have always found quite enjoyable, sadly tho with my fujifilm I can't actually get super close for the nice macro shots. But for a 28mm prime the macro images that you get from it are actually pretty cool so I hope you guys like these photos.

Making Choices

We have to make choices in basically everything we do, from choosing school or friends, choosing jobs, to choosing what tv show you want to watch. Everything that we do comes down to a choice we have to make. These choices can lead for better or worse, and granted the choices in photography tend to be should I take that photo or not, and the answer 99% of the time should be yes yes yes. But saying yes to everything isn't always the best, even in photography you taking a photo of the wrong thing will and can cause you to get into a situation that often isn't very good.
When you make a choice you are stuck with it, just remember that.

The choice in this was a bit less sever to say the least all it is is comparing colour but I have taken images that I have been forced to delete because the subject felt violated and it sucks and often is very scary but it should never put you off. Always try and respect what other people think and the rules they set when you decide to press that shutter button.

Kookaburra close ups

So I'm sure many people have owned or at least gone near birds before and if it is a bird that you own it would be very friendly. Well this Kookaburra which is wild let me get to a foot away and normally they would fly off as soon as you look at them. But this bird was a poser and because of this amazingly lucky experience I got these pretty cool kookaburra close ups.
Hope you guys enjoy

Rural living

Granted whilst I am not someone who lives in a rural area and has worked on a farm I am quite the opposite, but the people that are are some tough buggers, and everything that they use and wear are as well. Over this summer I stayed at a much more down to earth  style of living camp ground and the activities that they had there mainly were very down to earth and really hard work. So I decided that while I was there I was going to show some of this and here is what I came back with.

I really hope you guys enjoy. I also apologise for my shoty uploading recently been trying to fix my WiFi but I think it is working again so I should be all good again

Hong Kong Street shops

Street stores in poorer areas of the world do tend to be pretty amazing even just to look at but in a lot of these countries they dislike it when you take photos of them which sucks but it makes sense they are very protective of their work. But in Hong Kong it was so different, they would notice you and then would just basically ignore you which was so different but so amazing. (Guess they must just be use to people taking photos of them.) But if you do ever go to Hong Kong on literally any street (minus wealthy ones) there are stores like these and all you have to do is take a walk on their street and just take some photos.
Hong Kong is definitely worth it

Painting with emotions

I was looking through my art works and I rediscovered these lighting paintings that I did, and remembered that this was the light painting project that I was working on and sharing with you guys and I completely forgot about it and forgot to upload it. The timing of this shoot wasn't the best but none the less it happened with two less emotions than expected but either way the end results are pretty decent and for that I need to give a huge shout out to my 3 amazing models that took the time out of their school day to help me make my set and for being such amazing models on the day of my shoot.
I hope you guys enjoy sorry about the overly long wait that I put you guys through.

Hong Kong meat markerts

The Hong Kong street life in one word, it's amazing, everyone is always moving and trying to sell there goods and if you get a chance to go to their meat markets I would really recommend it the people that you see there are really amazing and hard working people. They work the exact same way day in and out with intensive labor and really is amazing to see.
Unlike just walking on the street these people seem to be fine with you taking photos of them they don't tend to freak out or tell you off half the time they don't even acknowledge your presence and that is normally a good thing, they and blend into the background it makes street photography a lot easier when you aren't all up in peoples' faces :P.

These are 5 of the best photos I got at the meat markets hope you guys enjoy :D

Filipino glass work

Filipino glass work is some of the coolest that I have seen but sadly it is also something that they are realllyyyyy protective about and really don't like people taking photos of it so I was quite lucky to get this one, and just shows how useful it can be to be sneaky.
Hope you guys enjoy

Filipino streets

The Filipino streets are one of the most vibrant places that I have ever been to just behind Japan and Hong Kong, but what is very different here is that no matter what the people are always smiling as soon as they see you their faces light up, it is the most amazing thing and is definitely something that I will remember for ever.
Hope you guys enjoy

Finally home

After an amazing holiday in 3 different countries I am now home and got plenty of memories to share with you guys. The top photo is the last photo I took in Hong Kong during my last night. Which I am definitely planning to revisit as it is such an amazing city and country* that you can't just see everything in 4 days you need at least a week or more so you can really soak up the environment. Not only is the atmosphere amazing there but the people are actually very friendly and will always let you take a photo they really don't care.

Whilst the lower photo is the final product, this was an image I wanted to upload whilst I was in Australia but I couldn't because I never had a solid wifi or data connection for that but I finally get to show you guys what the final product from my silver workshop shoot really looks like.
I hope you guys enjoy.

Shooting blind

Shooting bling is something that takes a lot of practice and is something that I have been practicing a lot this holiday with the amount of street photography I have been doing it really is a skill that is very useful in all situations. This is something that you do need to practice a lot to get the idea of but once you get it you can get some pretty cool photos.
So these are some of the examples that I got from the Philippines that I personally think are pretty decent.
I hope you guys enjoy
