About me

My name is Lachlan Mahoney. I am 17 and Australian, but for the past several years I have been living in Mongolia after moving from England. I have been to 31 countries and been photographing them for about 4 years. I am a self taught photographer with the dream of one day making it big in the industry. This blog is my way of sharing my world with everyone, and bringing them along on my amazing adventures as well as showing how I progress with my photography. I currently am shooting on a fuji x100s (which is something I absolutely adore), I do also shoot on my Canon 600D with a few different lenses. I hope you guys enjoy my blog, since the I started it almost a year ago the support I've gotten has been amazing. So if you feel like it share it with anyone you want.

Thank you all so much.

Unusual work benches

Using a lump of wood as a work bench is rather clever whilst it may not be the most practical work station it is very cool and a very clever idea to have in such a small work station, and it was amazing to see his hands flying around his small work station grabbing for different tools and then putting them back exactly where they were originally.
Hope you guys enjoy.

Focusing

Staying focused why someone is a foot a way from you with a camera is never an easy task no matter what you are doing. But this man was able to focus and continue to create these beautiful pure silver pendants and that focus he had was amazing that he could do that with me within a foot of his work table.
This was an amazing opportunity to get these photos and plan to do more stuff like this in the future. I am also starting to write and plan my first true short film so if I start to upload a bit slowly I apologise but I have a lot on my plate hope you guys stick around and enjoy.

Cramped spaces

Art doesn't take a lot of space to be amazing, it can be created anywhere from the smallest to the largest open spaces. But that being said when you see how tiny and cramped this mans work shop is, especially for the heat that crafting and molding silver creates, the fact he can create such master pieces is stunning.
Personal I am extremely claustrophobic so for me to actually have been able to lasted an hour (even tho they were in short increaments with me going outside for a bit every now and then) was something that I was proud of and I know I could never work in a place like that so strength to him for creating such amazing work in these conditions.

Hope you guys enjoy

These Working Hands

These are the hands of one of the most skillful silversmiths in the Mongolia and is known world wide. These are the hands of someone that knows his trade. Someone who knows everything about his trade an could do everything blindfolded, but these are hands of one of the finest and most delicate art forms we have.
These are some of the photos I took during my visit to his silver workshop hope you guys like.

Sorry everyone for the lack of uploads this week sorta been really relaxed not uploading anything but I went out the other day and got some cool street shoots so expect to see those some time soon.

Out of use

Like I was walking back from school on the final day so that I could take some photos. and these are 2 of the best images that I came up with. The one on the right whilst it doesn't look straight it is the building its self isn't due to its age it's warped and bent inwards while a cool image the guard didn't like me taking photos of it and got kicked off the bridge, and the left one is an area that was used for the military but is now used by the president and PM so not really somewhere you can just walk into but the sign is very old and it gives some very cool images.

I just got to my hotel after 20 hours of travel so sorry if that sounds badly written but I'm lie dead :P. Hope you guys like these photos and stay tuned for more.

Abstract photograhpy

So this isn't something that I have really experimented with recently or ever to be honest. But today I got the chance to go to this very cool silversmith today where I got to spend an hour taking a lot of photos so I have a few to share over the next few days while I am traveling. But even tho this was a very cramped space it was very cool to see the way he works and to get some very cool images as well. But while I was waiting for him to come out of a pitch black room I took these abstract photos just in his little kitchen so I hope you guys like the little bit of inspiration that I had.

Night time bridge shot

This image is definitely no where near an amazing image but it is something that I was actually having a problem with whilst I was taking it during our volleyball ACAMIS trip. I literally stopped walking with my friends while they went to go get ice cream and tried multiple times to get a decent image and this was the best one I got, even tho it isn't straight it was basically the only one that had the focus and centering I needed to make this curvy bridge into an interesting night shot.

Sorry about the lack of uploads recently I have just had a lot of personal stuff going on and haven't really done much photography at all because of it haha but I went out today and took some photos and I think I got a few good ones. But I am going on holiday on Saturday night so I'm not entirely sure how much time I will have to upload but I intend to fill up all the SD cards I take. Especially in Hong Kong so look forward to that I guess. Thank you guys for staying true to this blog and checking it all the time really means a lot to me even when i don't upload so keep it up basically and thank you all so much.

Pre Prom Photos

It is a bit after prom now but I decided to share 2 pics that my parents took (on the iPhones so ignore the bad quality) of me and my beautiful date before we went to prom. I had a fun night even tho the prom itself was not very fun and rather plain, thank you for making it much more enjoy able.

The Start Of Summer

Well its officially the start of summer, and in Mongolia the celebrate that with a wish and some lantern lighting. This was personally my first time going, and was something I planned to do last year with one of my closest friends but we got lazy hahaha. But this year we did it last second but it was fun, got to meet her family and join in on some local tradition defiantly something I will do again. I had a lot of fun and give many thanks to them for taking me.

So here are the best photos I could take with us being harassed by the police and eco-avengers.
Hope you guys enjoy

Monopoly time :D

Every family has a family game and mine has 2 that we all love, Monopoly is one and Uno is the other. And no matter what when you play and spend time with you family their should never be a dull moment it's way to easy to have fun with them so don't fight it, enjoy the time you have with them.

How far I have come

The top photo is one I took when I first started my photographic journey, and the lower one, is one of my favorite photos that I have taken. It is sometimes really cool to look back on old photos that at the time of taking you were really proud of just to see how far you have come, and to see that improvement that you have gone through can sometime blow your mind. I know it did mine looking at these old photos just reminds me of all the amazing things I have done and all the amazing things I can't wait to do in the future.

Airport shenanigans

Defiantly not my prettiest photos but these are from 8 in the morning after our quite successful ACAMIS football tournament. So I'm gonna use the time excuse to try and get around the less than great photo quality but it is a decent example at what you can do on little sleep :P.

Raw emotion

Emotions are normally something that we try to hide from others, as in our society they are perceived as a weakness, we get taught not to cry in public. and because of this we very rarely get to see the true emotions that people are going through. so it was very weird to see the graduating class at our school, showing such raw emotions, and in states that we had never seen them before. They have been an inspiration to the rest of the school and their school spirit was something that drove them and drives us to do our best and to follow in their foot steps.

To the class of 2015, Thank you.
